Aeramix Solutions Integrated Infrastructure and Structural Protection Services came together to complete a project within a tight project time frame for Veolia Water at the Sandhurst Water Treatment plant in Bendigo. The project involved the installation of an access pit to enable inspection and maintenance of an existing buried non return valve (NRV).
The project involved the installation of an access pit to enable inspection and maintenance of an existing buried non return valve (NRV). Overall the project ran for three months. Initially the ground needed stabilization and we achieved this with injection spears and a stabilisation product from Aeramix Structural Protection Services. A 4m deep shear excavation could then occur without trench shields or shoring. Thanks to our specialist Structural Protection Services team we could carry out the excavation and pour a new concrete access pit without any problems.
Extensive prior project planning was required to ensure the shutdown did not run overtime causing supply interruption to the storage basin. The consequences were high with the potential for the City of Bendigo to run out of water, therefore delays or failure were not an option during the NRV changeover.
On the installation day isolation of the raw water feed pipe to the Water Treatment Plant occurred, cutting of the existing 1050mm diameter steel pipework, we carried out modifications to the pipework support structure and concrete plinths, installed the new NRV, reinstalled the pipework with a gibault connection and completed testing. All changeover work was done within a 12 hour timeframe as planned.
Proudly the project was delivered on time, without incident and on budget.
